CARMELITE NUNS

The aim of founding this congregation is to embody hidden victims of sacrificial love—through loving and joyful self-sacrifice, prayer, reparation, and consolation for the pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

The Lord seeks true consolers. We do not shrink from the thought of martyrdom; we offer ourselves as victims in union with Christ, as apostles of prayer, to hasten the triumph of Mary and bring an end to the reign of terror.

Whenever we see Saint Thérèse of the Little Flower, we admire and desire the beautiful, fragrant roses she holds, but many forget the crucifix and thorns. The Holy Cross of Jesus, His pierced Heart, and that of Mary are inseparably connected with the work of reparation. In our lives, we aspire to be another Mary at the foot of the Cross, suffering through compassion for souls.

This congregation is a young Tridentine Latin Rite community under the SSIH Foundation, erected in Otukpo on April 11, 2023. It began with Sr. Ann Marie, amid the crisis of diminishing true Faith and morals in the present Church. With a great desire for Carmelite spirituality—and no traditional Carmelite presence in Nigeria—she decided to start a small, secluded community, supported by Fr. Sam Maria Abah.

We strictly follow the Tridentine Latin Holy Mass. The congregation has grown to four nuns and two lay sisters, with more young ladies aspiring to join us by the end of this month and beyond.

We are Discalced Carmelite nuns who live a life of prayer, reparation, and sacrifice for our own souls, those of others, and our Mother the Church. We are sustained by Divine Providence and engage in farming activities (poultry, livestock, and crop cultivation), as well as making rosaries. We desire to establish a candle production factory and to maintain and enlarge our livestock farms.
